What happened at Future Labs Live 2020 Binocs?

We participated in Future Labs Live for the first time. The conference is the most multidisciplinary event in the world dedicated to research and development, quality and production laboratories. “Binocs helps organizations optimize scheduling compliance and capacity.” That was the main message of Mathias Lasoen’s presentation at Future Labs Live 2020. We presented insights from our research on about 20 of the largest major pharmaceutical companies that use Binocs that support this claim.

How does Bincos improve lab performance?

We didn’t waste any time over the summer. Our colleague Adam and our intern Lauren both with a Masters in Statistics have teamed up to delve into Binoc’s historical data in search of answers, at least for us, to the exciting question: how much does Binocs improve scheduling compliance and throughput in quality control laboratories? Quite a few companies have been using Binocs for a long time. This means that the historical data in Binocs is rich and solid. During the research, all the teams included in our research noticed that their compliance with the planning had increased since the Binocs implementation. Additionally, these teams noticed both adherence to scheduling rules and increased bandwidth since they started using Binocs. This may come as a surprise to some, as compliance and capacity planning are often considered to be opposing forces. We came to the following conclusions: by using Binocs, an average monthly increase in planning compliance of 1.9% was achieved, which equates to a total increase in planning compliance by 45%, and also achieved an average monthly increase in bandwidth of 57%, which corresponds to a total increase in bandwidth by 57%.
